The Heart Still Cares

“Do you believe in true love?” a guy once asked a girl.

The girl hesitated before finally answering the guy, “What is true love though?”

This is probably one of those questions that do not have a definite answer. One of the biggest mysteries yet to be unsolved.

Some would say when you cannot keep your minds off of your partner, that is true love. Others would tell you that when their happiness is the only thing that matters to you, that is true love. And there are some others that say when you accept your partner as who they are, that is true love. So, which one is right?

Who knows? But there was once a saying that goes, “When you truly care for someone, their mistakes never change your feelings because it is the mind that gets angry, but the heart still cares.”

To Matthew and Bella, love is simple and humble. Just like how they officially began their love story, enjoying their delicious porridge together at abang pasmod, they kept their dating life modest and unpretentious. And so was their reason in tying the knot.

When asked “What made you know she is the one for you?”, Matthew’s answer, ordinary as it was, surprisingly warmed my heart and, I’m sure, whoever else who might have heard it.

“There was this one time,” he started his little confession, “where we had our biggest argument and we ended up not talking to each other for quite some time. We didn’t even see each other anymore. It was like we took a break from each other.”

“And it was at that time I felt it. The discomfort. The emptiness. It was like something was missing, a part of me was gone. So, I picked up the phone and called her, asking to meet up and have a talk. Apparently, she felt the same, and that’s how we both knew that we want to stay with each other for the rest of our lives.”

So, the question remains – What is true love?

The answer stands – No one will ever know for sure.

However, for Matthew and Bella, true love is obviously when you can’t stay angry at each other for long because at the end of the day, the existence, the company of their partner is what makes their day and fills their souls.

Because it is the mind that gets angry, but the heart still cares.
