Kairos Works

There’s no such thing as coincidence in this world, at least that is what I believe. Every moment or every person you meet will lead you to another part of your life that you’ve never known before. Suddenly, I remember back when I decided to take a photography class with one of the fashion photography masters, Mr. Anton Ismail, and that was the time I met Amel, one of the most talented photographers here in Kairos Works. Well.. That’s just another story. But that kind of story reminds me of Erwin & Senny’s story.

This story is kind of interesting and unique for me, like I never knew this kind of situation could connect two people all of a sudden and make them fall in love. Let me give you a snippet of their unique story. A few years ago, Senny met Erwin in Jakarta in one of their friend’s weddings. At that time, Senny was a Bridesmaid, and Erwin was a Groomsman. They didn’t know each other at that time, and with all the wedding rituals and hectic-ness, they didn’t spend a lot of time talking, just shaking hand and asking for their Facebook pages. Yes, this is common these days, starting a friendship by adding each other’s Facebook page. And so they did. Starting from that day they became friend on Facebook. But that was it, and then they forgot about it. A couple of months later, Erwin had to go to Auckland to continue his study there, but it didn’t impact affect Senny in any way. It was just another thing that was supposed to happen. She didn’t really give any attention to it, or maybe she just didn’t know about it. Time flew and this friendship existence on Facebook became invisible. Status updates in timeline is a mere scrolling habit.

Until one day, when Jakarta was facing one of its historical times, where the citizens had to choose their governor. Erwin seemed as if he was interested about this election. There was a candidate who attracted his attention, because to many people, this candidate was different. So, although he was living in Auckland at that time, he actively posted news and article about them on Facebook. What about Senny? She was still on her scrolling habit and did not pay any attention.

Like having a jogging ritual in the park every morning, and although most of the time we will be running, there will times when we would stop for a while and take a look at the beautiful swans on the lake, or the wisteria flowers that bloom in the corner. There was a moment when Senny needed to find an information about this Election Day, and from with her scrolling habit on Facebook, she remembered one person who would always post and share articles about this election day, Erwin. So she contacted him, says “Hi” and started a conversation. From a simple “Hi” to “How are you?”, and from a simple “How are you?” to “I’m going back to Jakarta”, and from the simple “I’m going back to Jakarta” to “Do you have time for coffee?” and viola! Here they are.

Now Jakarta is facing the same period of election. In a few days ahead, the citizens will go back and choose their new governor. Maybe for many people, this event is nothing more than a political event that happens every 5 years. But we know for sure, for these to people, Erwin & Senny, this event holds a deeper meaning. This event is what brought them to what they have now, and to January 21, 2017, the day when they said their vows, to hold on to each other for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, until death do they part.
