Sometimes we get projects that will push us out and beyond. One of which is Steven and Ayumi’s Lovebook.⁣

Steven and Ayumi have a very distinct taste in art. It’s no surprise that they were pretty specific when it came to designing their Lovebook, something that resembles a classic pirate’s treasure chest that they can display in their living room. Something that will make people question what it holds.⁣

The specificity started from the cover — finished wood cover. You might think, but guys, you’ve done wood covers a million times! Hold your horses. Sure, they requested a wood cover, but they requested a particular finishing. Authentic teak with a rustic finish. One that has a knothole and has been naturally aged.⁣

Aside from the wood, Steven also requested for authentic brass accessories for the packaging. We showed them a classic brass locket and key set that we found. They instantly fell in love!⁣

For the pages, Ayumi dreamt of papers that will match the rustic feel of the entirety. From all the samples that we showed them, she chose the perfect one. Recycled papers that look like they had been preserved in the cabinet for decades. Completing the vintage elements, the photographs were turned into black and white, surrounded with strokes of traditional Chinese ink as decorative painting. ⁣
