Promise Keeper
It is safe to say that a wedding day is one of the most monumental moments in one’s life. The promise of for better or worse, for richer for poorer, for sickness and health, til death do them part. For most, these commitments are only exercised after the wedding day is over. But for Chris and Sevilla, the fulfillment of these promises began even before the wedding day approached.
A wedding day is not only an important day for the bride and groom. It is also a huge moment for the close friends and families of the happy couple. After Chris proposed to Sevilla, it was Sevilla’s turn to propose to her girl gang to become her bridesmaids. Linda, a Palembang based up and coming notary, was among one of the chose ones.
Lidya’s bridesmaid’s duty went on smoothly until a surprising phone call from Jakarta came a few days before Sevilla’s big day. Lidya was torn. She was suddenly faced with two options: sticking with her bridesmaid’s commitment or flying to Jakarta to accomplish a prerequisite test to become an official notary that only comes once every one to two years. This test is not one to miss. After an intense deliberation process, Lidya decided to step back from her bridesmaid’s commitment and fly to Jakarta to fulfill her dreams to become an official notary.
When she broke the news to Sevilla, both of them were heart broken. That moment was probably one of the hardest moments in their friendship. They are close, closer than a friend, they’re sisters. However, Sevilla understood and respected Lidya’s decision, and ultimately supported Lidya 100 percent. But Lidya promised to still be there for the blessing ceremony of her sister and her soon to be husband, Chris.
Learning about this, Chris knew he needed to step up as a man, as a good husband for Sevilla. Finally the big day came, the way Chris showed his love and care for Sevilla overshadowed her sadness and turned it into joy. It’s in the way he looked into her eyes, they way he held her hand tightly as if saying, “For better for worse, for richer for poorer, for sickness and health, til death do them part. For good times and bad times, I will be here with you through it all.”
When we love someone, it doesn't matter when the proclamation of commitment is said. What matters is we do it readily and whole heartedly for the one we truly care about.
