“When a man truly loves a woman, she becomes his weakness. When a woman truly loves a man, he becomes her strength. This is called an exchange of power.”
Before meeting Milken & Luis, I couldn’t quite accept this notion because I believe true love completes and strengthens each other. It makes you equal to each other. So, how could true love make one a weakness for the partner and another the strength for the other?
Then came the big day for this couple and I was given the honor to eternalize one of the most important moments in their lives into frames. I, then, asked Luis what she would have Milken done when he came to the room for their first meeting. As with many other brides, in her nervousness, she joked about the silly stuff she wanted him to do. But it was the favor she asked me to carry out that intrigued me. Luis wished for Milken’s expression to be captured instead of hers! I raised my eyebrow in confusion because most brides would want otherwise.
I obeyed, nevertheless, since the bride’s wish is my command. 😊
Soon after, Milken stepped into the room and all the cameras clicked away endlessly, not wanting to miss a second of the crucial moment. Then, it hit me and suddenly that quote made so much sense!
If a picture speaks a thousand words, then Milken’s eyes when he looked at Luis said it all. Everyone could immediately tell from his softened gaze how much he loves Luis. Add to that his wedding vow, it was obvious that Luis means the world to Milken.
When someone means that much to you, even the thought of them not being by your side can make one shudder. You will also be willing to do anything in your power to make them happy.
Probably, this was one of the reasons Luis asked me for such a favor. Seeing and knowing how much her true love loves her gives her happiness more than anything in the world. His love fuels her; it gives her the excitement and courage to face the world even more than before.
So, yes, Luis might be Milken’s weakness, but her existence is also his strength. And so is Milken to Luis. I realized right there is the hidden meaning behind “the exchange of power”.
I could not be any happier to be able to witness such a testament of true love, especially during this tough times that have tested so many love stories, because not only did it warm my heart and put a smile back on my face, but it also reminded me of why Kairos was created in the first place – “sharing love with the world”.
