Kryptonite

PING!!!

PING!!!

PING!!!

The urgent notification kept coming in. It got a tick on the screen, but no D, hence no R. No one replied.

PING!!

PING!!

There it went again. Still. Silent.

“Fin, did you change your phone or something?”

That was how Anatazia first said hi to Griffin when they were both in high school many years ago. It was so long ago that Anatazia didn't even remember it. But what Anatazia remembers was how funny Griffin was in high school. They grew really close together when they were in their senior year. He sat at the desk behind her. They were like two peas in a pod. They could talk about anything.

Not a day went by without them laughing at some random things. Griffin was the class clown. One day Griffin got the class so hyped up by his endless jokes that the entire class got punished. The teacher made the whole class stood at the most scorching hot hour of the day at the school’s court for forty-five minutes. Griffin’s humorous side remains constant throughout their nine-year relationship. It was not a rare sight to see Griffin tried to crack some jokes just to tease a smile on Anatazia’s face. He doesn't care how silly he looks as long as her heart is content.

When asked if Griffin was a romantic guy, Anatazia said, “No, I don't think so. But I know he puts in a lot of effort to try to be romantic for me. Cause he knows that would make me happy.” Griffin may not be a romantic guy. But he sure has a soft heart. At first they both decided to write their own vow and agreed to read it on their wedding day. However as the day grew nearer and nearer, he started to back down because he was scared he couldn't hold in his tears of joy and excitement. He didn't want the tears to disturb the clarity of his promise. So he chose to stick with what the church had prepared for them. “But just look at these pictures, I still don't think he held the tears in,” Anatazia said as she showed me a picture of a tear about to fall down his cheek.

A joker is able to mask his true feelings with laughter and comedy. But every joker has a kryptonite. And Griffin’s kryptonite is Anatazia.
