Isn’t Always Blue
There comes a moment in a man’s life where he has decided to be committed to a woman for the rest of their lives. That moment of revelation may come after moments of being together, or sometimes even apart. Mark and Cindy spent most of their four years of dating separated by time and distance. “The sky isn’t always blue…. But both of us are always there for each other and knowing that everything goes according to His plan, that’s the most reassuring thing,” Mark told me. Through all the challenges brought forth by long distance relationship, Mark was certain that what they have is worth it.
The big night happened during one of Mark’s romantic trips to Jakarta to visit Cindy. He had planned a secret romantic night of jazz, her favorite genre of music, in one of Jakarta’s most luxurious hotels. Strangely Cindy was hesitant to even leave the house that night. Though Mark managed to drive her to the basement, he failed to convince her to get out of the car. Feeling caught in a moment of desperation, Mark made a drastic move by showing her just the box of the engagement ring. Then he drove to to Menteng area in Central Jakarta to have supper where he actually proposed to her and presented her with the ring. Mark kept his proposal speech short and sweet. He just sincerely told her how he feels with no reservation, with all of his vulnerability, with all his heart. Tears streamed down her cheeks the moment she opened the box. Of course she said, “YES!”
“The sky isn’t always blue..” was Mark’s way to paint the vibe of their relationship. Life is filled with surprises that sometimes led us off the course of our plans. But those surprises are for the better of us, to encourage and challenge us to get better. Most importantly those surprises come to our lives to get us closer to our loved ones. Though the night of the proposal didn't go exactly according to Mark’s plan, but he did make the best of the entire night. What matters is he earnestly told Cindy how much he loves her and he can’t imagine spending the rest of his life with someone else but her. The sky might not always blue, but one thing remains true: the depth of Mark’s love to Cindy makes their lives joyful.
