Game of Love

“But if you were my girlfriend, you don't have to worry about a thing. Cause I got you,” was what Mario jokingly said during the early stage of his friendship with Valencia. But there’s always a little bit of truth in every joke, isn’t it?

It was a one fine afternoon when he prophetically said those words. They were just done from enrolling to after school programs that the university offered. Valencia got a little too excited and enrolled to one too many programs, jokingly she said to Mario, “Oh man.. I don't know if I’m gonna make it through this month. Cause the programs are hitting my bank account hard. HAHHAHA.” Hence the chivalrous reply from Mario.

A few months went by and another similar incident happened again. Mario just couldn't quit playing. It was during one of those game nights with their friends when they played the famous game of marry-shag-kill. It was Mario’s turn to play and Valencia’s name was in the mix. I guess we all know what he was going to say? Yup! We guessed it! Mario chose Valencia as the one he would marry. And the rest is pretty much history.

Ever since that night he couldn't stop thinking about Valencia. He played so much he started thinking his mind was playing a trick on him. “It was just a game”, he told himself. Or wasn't it?

It was real. He meant it. He started thinking about ways to make his feelings known. He drew closer to Valencia. He would find out what makes her sad, so he can be the one to bring a smile on her face.

Like that one time when the stress of university life was just too much for Valencia that she was about to have a breakdown. He knew, so he did the one gesture that always gets a woman every time. He surprised Valencia with a bouquet of flowers. Nothing means more to a woman than the first bouquet of flowers that she ever received. And Mario managed to give her that at the right time. She did cry when she hugged the bouquet of flowers. But it was obviously tears of joy.

Soon after that it was pretty much clear for both Mario and Valencia that they were meant for each other. If Mario were a superhero, then his words would be his superpower. They have the ability turn a vision into reality. It started out as a joke, but now he is hooked.
