Better Than The Rest

Birthdays in nature are special to most people. They bring so much joy and memories of happier moments shared together. David is one of those people who cherish birthday celebrations and he managed to make Hanny’s birthday in 2019 so much sweeter.

So what did David do on Hanny’s birthday last year? He did the one thing that every woman waits for her whole life. He asked the one question every girlfriend waits for her entire relationship. Yup! He popped the big question, “Will you marry me?”
               Waiting is not an enjoyable activity for anyone. But sometimes moments of waiting can bring out the best scenario and make an event more spectacular. It was business as usual for David and Hanny in Australia. Two young professionals focused on their own tasks. There was no lunch date or dinner date. Nothing. David kept the suspense up til the sun finally sets and they were finally home in their pad. But little did Hanny know, David had secretly snuck back in their pad to hide a birthday cake for her. “Hanny, were you totally surprised or did you have any feeling that you were gonna get proposed to on your birthday?,” I asked Hanny once they told me the whole story. “I was totally surprised! I couldn't help it and instantly started crying,” she reminisced.
               The sun has set and they finally got to spend time together and celebrate Hanny’s birthday. As birthday tradition goes, David pulled out the birthday cake he had hidden in the fridge, lit some candles and told Hanny to close her eyes and make a wish. Unsuspectingly she blew out all the candles, still with her eyes tightly closed, “Keep ‘em closed. I got a gift for u!,” he instructed her. She had thought to herself, “Oh yes! I’m gonna get an Apple watch!” But David had prepared a gift that far exceeds the very alluring Apple watch. He put on a ring on her finger. With heart beating fast, tears flooded her cheeks she opened her eyes and said, “Yes!”.

Birthdays will forever go down as special in a person’s life. I think birthdays are proof that we are blessed beyond measure with the presence of our loved ones commemorating it with us. But some birthdays are more special than the rest. It’s when our special someone planned something out of the ordinary to make us feel extra loved than usual. Just like what David did to surprise Hanny on her birthday.
